ROSEMARY'S INFERNO

Last night I went to a double feature of Roman Polanski's Rosemary's Baby and Dario Argento's Inferno last night at the Castro Theatre here in San Francisco. It's always an amazing experience seeing any film at the Castro. This particular evening they projected a Halloween-themed cat & pumpkin image on the curtain whilst the organist (who always performs before the show) played Bach's Toccata e Fuga. (My attempt to capture it on my blackberry pictured below)

Rosemary's Baby is obviously an incredible film, shot beautifully with gorgeous dream sequences and extremely thoughtful production design. But in terms of imagery, Inferno struck me a bit more on the big screen. Characters weaving from exaggerated interior to exaggerated interior, the multicolored lighting, the small details like bulbous glass doorknobs and extreme closeups of details that would normally go unnoticed. Oh also, babes everywhere...Here are some stills I gathered.

So now, what will you be for Halloween? I think I've been coerced into being Baby Spice - my initial idea was to be half of Yin & Yang, slightly disappointed the ying to my yang will be in a different city for the holiday. Feel free to take this idea - wouldn't want to see it go to waste!

Here are some images from our most recent shoot at the salt flats in Fremont, CA. A totally surreal, almost post-apocalyptic seeming place. New Music: Tamaryn "Sandstone"

San Francisco's Tamaryn has just released a new track "Sandstone" from her forthcoming album The Waves on the record label Mexican Summer (Out Sept 14th). Like her music, Tamaryn's style is a bit dreamy, a bit dark and totally inspired. Her aesthetic & music have been a constant influence on the shop & I, and to be able to collaborate with her has been very special.Tamaryn and I traveled to the abyssal desert of Nevada and Utah to shoot the album art, have a look below and soak up the imagery while you listen to this perfect new song.

Attn Shoppers - Site Glitch FIXED!

It has just been brought to our attention that there was a very serious glitch with our site in terms of inventory. Many items were incorrectly deemed "sold out" and therefore unavailable to purchase. This glitch has been FIXED and now a major amount of items are now available for purchase - if there are items you had been eying that were marked as "sold out" please check the site again! San Francisco: Land's End

This weekend we took a short trip across town to Land's End - a stunning coastal spot in San Francisco just south of the Golden Gate Bridge. Jutting rocky cliffs, grassy meadows bursting with all types of spring blossoms, crystal clear waters. The coast in Northern California is incomparable to any other - unlike the frequently attended beaches in LA and San Diego, there is still an element of raw, wild nature. We shot tons of great pieces and also brought along our new intern, Alex. He photographed some behind the scenes photos that are pictured below:

Girl Of The Week: Liza Thorn

Liza Thorn is the lead singer of San Francisco's BRIDEZ. Her sense of style has always struck me (and probably everyone she's encountered) - 1950's woven straw skirts as neckpieces, sequined/beaded EVERYTHING, silk kimonos and designer swimsuits...its endless. How Liza approaches style encompasses that of San Francisco - anything can be worn as anything, wear what you like regardless of who made it or if it's popular and in the end it all turns out looking incredibly chic. Coachella 2010

This past weekend I went to Coachella - the first time in 6 years! It was sweltering, but I actually enjoy hot weather & still survived wearing black pants. Highlights of the weekend: Jay Z with a surprise Beyonce cameo (of course), seeing lots of old friends, the crowd that amassed for San Francisco's own GIRLS, being finally able to break out crop tops without worrying that I'll be cold, seeing the Arctic Monkeys play in Pioneertown (an old western movie set about 35 mins north of palm springs) and picking up some really cool pieces for the shop! Although quite a bit of questionable fashion sense at Coachella (as there are with most outdoor festivals), we definitely caught some great outfits - lots of mixed florals & structured sun dresses being our favorites. Here are a few photos from our trip, we are back in Tennessee picking up new pieces for the shop - more to be added after the weekend!

After spending a considerable amount of time in Nashville, my interest in country music has totally blown up and it's all I really listen to (especially while working on the shop) I find myself spending hours on youtube watching videos of the Ozark Jubilee and the Webb Pierce show. Most of these women are true beauties, especially one of my favorites, Goldie Hill. Her twangy, slightly deeper voice doesn't exactly match her soft movie star appearance - here's a few videos for some visuals:

Lately I've been interested in boyfriend's clothing - j.crew vintage hunting jackets, oversized oxford button ups, open knit slouchy cardigans and lace up boots. Lately instead of doing laundry I've been doing a lot of closet raiding - tons of layering with super soft cottons & silk knits. San Francisco's weather is so erratic it really encourages creativity with layering. You can see a slight example in our last post amidst the incredible amount of sea foam.

Really, if I had it my way, I'd be dressing like THIS every day:

Like personal style in San Francisco, the array of scenery this city has to offer is quite eclectic - this weekend we took a small trip to fort funston. while our neighborhood was sunny and warm, down by the beach it was windy, overcast and absolutely beautiful. here are some pictures we captured on this little adventure:

If you've ever met me, you may know that I have a slight obsession with Patti Smith. She completely encapsulates everything I would want of a female artist. Not only is she an inspiring artist and musician, but also one of my style icons. I've never seen anyone wear menswear so effortlessly, and whatever she wears looks perfectly just thrown together. She just released a book about her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe - I probably will recommend already it although I just began reading. It almost makes me uncomfortable to talk about her for too long - I feel like I could never give her justice with my words. I'll just say, buy her discography, books and watch/read her interviews - there's a lot more to her than just great music. We mention this only because we will be stocking the store with some really great menswear-inspired pieces tonight, trousers & coats especially. Alright, here:
